The ideal of a floating bearing test rig was first created in 1966 and has been widely implicated for testing various types of tilting pad journal bearings. The impedance observed in these evaluation have been contrasted with predictions of rotor/journal-perturbed impedance. Duo to the different inertial acceleration of a pad, bearing-perturbed and rotor-perturbed motions, the reaction force parts of the bearing for these motions also vary. Understanding that the differences in impedances between bearing-perturbed and rotor-perturbed conditions, it is crucial for evaluating the validity of past, present, and future comparisons between Tilting Pad Journal Bearings test data and predictions.
A novel perturbation model for Tilting Pad Journal Bearings has been devised, intergrating the effects of angular, radial, and transverse pad motion, as well as changes in pad clearance due bypad bending compliance. While previous studies have included separate pad variables, no publications that have integrated perturbations of all four variables simultaneously. Additionally earlier research concentrated only on disturbing the rotor, whereas the current analysis considers perturbations of both the bearing and rotor motions.
To evaluate the accuracy of comparing rotor-perturbed bearing impedance predictions with impedances, we compare rotor-perturbed and bearing-perturbed impedance predictions for a sample bearing are compared.

Gas and steam turbines typically make use of tilting pad journal and thrust bearings, either separately or in combined set, depending on their size.
Generators, varying in size, use a comprehensive selection of HZ Journal Bearings products either as internal bearings or complete assemblies housed within.
Motors make use of a whole range of bearings from HZ Journal Bearings, including combined journal bearing. That is because pumps and motors are frequently connected together as motor pump assemblies.
